• Whittier Boat Harbor Policy & Procedures, Rules & Regulations The Whittier Small Boat Harbor has been active in the "Kids Don't Float" program in cooperation with the United States Coast Guard for several years. Life jackets are available in different sizes and are located at both walk ramps. We also encourage all boaters, kayaks, water-skiers, etc. to file a float plan with the harbor office. The Harbor Staff wants your experience to be a trouble free one that enhances your visit to the City or makes your adventure on Prince William Sound a fun one. The two most significant things to know about coming to Whittier to visit or launch you boat are the Anton Memorial Tunnel hours and the parking situation in Whittier. If you have the proper information, a good idea where you're going and what you want to do when you get here, your trip will be more pleasant and you'll have more time to have fun. First, before you leave home or are planning your vacation check out the tunnel hours and fees at http://www.dot.state.ak.us/creg/whittiertunnel/index.shtml. The Tunnel is 2.5 miles in length and is one lane traveling one way each hour. Secondly, parking your car, truck or trailer can be a challenge if you head for the wrong place when you enter the City. Please look at the map of the waterfront area parking. Please notice that the waterfront parking area is for Two Hour Parking, Permit Parking and Active Stage Parking for boats and trailers. If you want to park a car, truck or trailer in the City for longer than two hours, you must utilize the private long term parking lot located across the tracks from the waterfront. This parking lot, as well as camping and RV parking is accessed by turning right just over the bridge as you approach the waterfront area. If you are driving an RV and are not headed to the Alaska Marine Highway Terminal, you will experience serious difficulty maneuvering around the boat ramp operation and will find no parking for your RV. Please make the right turn just after the bridge for RV Parking. If you are arriving for immediate departure on the Alaska Marine Highway, follow the signs to the Terminal near the Triangle Business Area. Two hour parking for Cars Only is available for folks waiting for a ferry. Check out the ferry website at http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs. We look forward to your visit! Parking Permits Moorage and Waitlist InformationRight now, the Whittier Small Boat harbor is filled to capacity. We have a small number of slips that are available during the off season but generally, except for our overnight guests, we are chock full. The only way to get a slip in the marina is to fill out a waitlist form and work your way to the top. Many people ask, "How long does this take?" The answer is "We're not sure!" However, a wild guess on the part of the Harbormaster is five to seven years. Please fill out the wait list form and before you know it, you'll be one of us! Port & Harbor CommissionThe Whittier Port and Harbor Commission is scheduled to meet the 3rd Saturday of each month at 11:00 am in the Council Chamber located in P12 building.
