The City of Whittier is proud to share that the U.S. Navy Secretary has approved the commissioning of the USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128) in Whittier, currently anticipated for Fall 2026. This exciting opportunity follows the U.S. Navy’s visit to Whittier in May 2024, when community leaders and partners worked to showcase why Whittier would be a meaningful location to host this historic ceremony. Ship commissionings mark the moment a naval vessel officially enters active service and are significant national events. It is a tremendous honor for our small community to be selected. The City will be working closely with the USS Ted Stevens Commissioning Committee, led by President Cherie Curry, along with the U.S. Navy and the USS Ted Stevens Foundation as planning begins.
